OUR MANDATE<\/strong><\/p>

CIFIU\u2019s mandate is to facilitate the prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of money laundering, the financing of terrorism and other serious offences in the Cook Islands.<\/p>

CIFIU\u2019s mission is to contribute to the national, regional and global fight against money laundering, the financing of terrorism and other serious crimes through its intelligence and compliance program.<\/p>

OUR MISSION STATEMENT<\/strong><\/p>

At the CIFIU, we strive to be a leader in the prevention of money laundering and terrorist financing activities and thus contribute to a safe and stable financial and economic environment for the people of the Cook Islands and investors.<\/p>

We embrace this mission through compliance examinations, information collection, analysis and the dissemination of information on suspected money laundering, the financing of terrorism activities and other serious crimes to relevant domestic and international law enforcement authorities.<\/p>

Walter Henry<\/span>\u00a0was appointed Head of the\u00a0<\/span>Cook Islands Financial Intelligence Unit (CIFIU)<\/span>\u00a0in\u00a0<\/span>August 2021<\/span>, following nearly two decades of dedicated service within the Unit. He joined CIFIU in\u00a0<\/span>2002<\/span>\u00a0as an\u00a0<\/span>Intelligence Analyst<\/span>, where he played a key role in developing the Unit\u2019s tactical, operational, and strategic intelligence capabilities.<\/span><\/div>
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>
Walter brings with him\u00a0<\/span>14 years of Police Service<\/span>, having served as a\u00a0<\/span>Detective Sergeant<\/span>, and offers a broad and deep understanding of financial crime investigation and intelligence.<\/span><\/div>

As Head of CIFIU, Walter is focused on strengthening the Cook Islands\u2019 resilience against money laundering and other serious financial crimes (terrorist\/Proliferation financing), enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and ensuring alignment with international AML\/CFT standards, through active participation in organizations such as the Egmont Group of FIU\u2019s, the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG), and the Pacific Financial Intelligence Community (PFIC).<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/section>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
